
Melissa Crystal O'Neil (born July 12, 1988[1]) is a Canadian actor and singer. O'Neil was the first Canadian female winner of Canadian Idol's third season, was awarded the title in 2005. O'Neil is best known as an actress because of her roles on Syfy as Two or Rebeccaas Two / Rebecca / Portia Lin and on ABC as Officer Lucy Chen in the ABC procedural drama The Rookie. She was selected among the bottom three and two contestants were eliminated. The judges were stunned by this and urged viewers to decide to vote Melissa for her voice talents. O'Neil's performances were constantly praised and O'Neil did not slip back into the bottom 3. Zack Werner, the judge, declared O'Neil "a chance to win the whole thing". O'Neil, along with Rex Goudie, reached the finals on September 7th in 2005. Werner, a judge famously said that the headlines of the following day's papers would be "The King [Kalan Porter] has passed away. The Queen will live forever." O'Neil defeated Goudie in the grand finale results showon the 14th of September in 2005. She was also crowned the third Canadian Idol and the first female winner.
